Contrary to popular opinion, pastors, evangelists and missionaries are NOT supermen! Although they can jump over pews, they cannot leap over a church steeple in a single bound. They might be able to see far beyond the average church member’s horizon, but they cannot see through walls, doors, other non-transparent solid surfaces. The preacher may be full of hot air, at times, but he is not able to blow hurricane force winds out of his mouth. Radioactive kryptonite is not one of the many things which can destroy the man of God. However, a lack of encouragement can bring him to his knees.
Needing Encouragement Is Not A Sign Of Weakness…
I have heard many a preacher say that encouragement is not high on their needs list. Robust, weathered, and well versed, many a preacher from the old school has endured challenging times. While they might not remember or realize it, they needed encouragement then and now. Today’s servants may acknowledge the need of encouragement more than those of earlier generations, but it doesn’t make them sissies or weaklings! After all, one of God’s choicest soldiers, king David, needed encouragement in his life. The Scripture indicates that he found his encouragement in the LORD his God! (1 Samuel 30:6)
THE Source Of Encouragement…
Like king David, everyone needs to know where the proper source of encouragement lay. If we rely upon people rather than our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, then we will fold up like a paper napkin every time a problem arises. Yes, our friends can help us, but they must use God’s Word to encourage us. Results, achievements, successes, or whatever term you would like to use can be used of God to put a pep in our step, but it will not serve as a means to eradicate trouble when it comes to fruition. We must avail ourselves of encouragement in God and His Word! Proverbs 3:5-6 says it quite well!
(Proverbs 3:5-6) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (KJV)
Be An Encourager…
Some may zap our energy, and others can successfully steal our time, but nobody can take encouragement from us. We must give it up! This we must do! The apostle Paul explained it quite well in Second Corinthians chapter one. We will be able to help encourage others by what and how we are encouraged through our experiences. A verse, an answer to specific prayer, or even a message preached at a gathering of God’s people may be the thing shared that God uses to move the discouraged saint a step further down the road. Your tidbit of dialogue could be the deciding factor in whether a battle fatigued servant of Christ is invigorated or not!
May I Invite You???
In an effort to foster an arena of encouragement for God’s children, our congregation is holding a jubilee in June of this year. The purpose of this meeting is to assemble a group of God’s servants together around God’s Word, Spirit-filled singing, divinely appointed fellowship, and Holy Ghost empowered prayer groups! You can learn more about our meeting by clicking HERE. GCBC is praying for scores of missionaries, pastors, evangelists and various brothers and sisters in Christ to come and participate in this year’s inaugural jubilee. Will you make an effort to attend? Will you pray for this endeavor? Will you share this post with a person whom you think needs such a reminder about encouragement?
